Harlem Hospital

Designed by HOK NY in association Studio/JTA, the concept for Harlem Hospital Center will integrate innovative health care planning and design excellence with the intent to express the vibrant history and current culture of Harlem.

The design will preserve and highlight the WPA murals from existing buildings slated to be demolished. HOK will incorporate restored mural images into the building’s architecture at the scale of the building’s 80-feet-high facade, by using transparent images integrated within a sustainable high performance curtain wall.

This design will increase healthcare services to the Harlem community and its surrounding neighborhoods and will position Harlem Hospital to be one of the most technologically advanced hospitals in New York City.

The plan includes a new patient pavilion and the renovation of key nursing and clinical units in the Martin Luther King Pavilion. Some 180,000 square feet of space in new construction and 120,000 square feet of existing space are be renovated.
